Lines (2) This command initiates the drawing of a straight line. The user must use the mouse, dialogue box (double-click on the tool icon) or the data display bar to enter the lines properties. The same goes for the double line Tool.
Rectangles (4) These commands are used to draw rectangles or squares. Again the user must use the mouse, dialogue box (double-click on the tool icon) or the data display bar to enter the objects properties. TIP: If the shift key is held down whilst defining the rectangular objects properties with the mouse then a square will be drawn.
Ellipse (6) Vectorworks provides a number of alternative ways (modes) to construct an ellipse or circle. When the ellipse tool is selected these are displayed in the mode bar towards the top of the drawing window. The first mode is ellipse by box; the user draws a rectangle and the ellipse is fitted inside it. The remaining modes are circle by radius, circle by diameter and circle by three points. Experiment with the different modes to see how they work.

Arcs (3) Arcs, like circles, can be constructed in a number of ways. The default method is to specify by radius.
Polylines (5) This command is used to draw what are known as polylines. These are continuous sequences of straight line and/or arc segments. Polylines can be drawn using different modes; by corner point, by bezier control point, by cubic spline point and by arc point. These four methods can be combined whilst using the tool by pressing the 'U' key on the keyboard to toggle through them.
NB: To finish drawing a polyline double-click the final point or single-click on the start point to create a closed shape.
Polygons The polygon tools allows the creation of regular polygons, irregular polygons, and double-line polygons.
